We are excited to announce that our propriety TempehSure Organic Starter Culture made with Rhizopus Oligosporus (RO) is now available for sale on our website.

There are several types of culture that can produce tempeh, and they can vary widely in concentration, quality and origin. Rhizopus Oligosporus is ideal because it works quickly, is sturdy against other bacteria and produces a pleasant, traditional flavor.

Starter cultures are generally measured in CFU’s (colony forming units) per weight, so a low CFU starter may work okay but could require more to produce the same-size batch as another. Our RO starter culture is made in the U.S. in a world-renowned, certified food-safe facility, and we test the CFUs so you are assured of its quality and consistent results.

We cultivate and dilute our starter with organic brown rice powder to assure a high standard and GF rating. TempehSure Organic Starter Culture is packed in pre-measured packets for one or two batches (depending on batch size) to minimize the chance of post-delivery contamination from the starter being left out or from multiple measuring spoons being used for subsequent batches.
